Embracing Femininity: Skincare as a Celebration of Womanhood

As women, most of us went through the phase where we started hating the colour pink because it was associated with such discrimination, sneer and mockery. Since childhood, we were asked to bend our ways and legs in the ways culture prescribes us to. From sitting in the right manner, to laughing like a ‘lady’, all of us have been told once or more to ‘behave’ like a woman. Nowadays, the very word ‘woman’ is under constant commute.

The best way to understand womanhood is through yourself. How do you understand womanhood and what according to you encompasses the word femininity. It is important to acknowledge our personal perception before moving on to read about articles on womanhood others wrote.

Womanhood is existing as a human being, with deep sensibilities of things in and around us. My concept of womanhood is rooted in resilience and strength that are synonymous to sensitivity and vulnerability. It is breaking the age-old dichotomies created by society according to who, we can only be one thing. It is being free to choose the life I want to have, with love, dignity and care.

Celebrating womanhood is celebrating you, reminding you of your unmatched potential to feel and do things. It is being in charge of your body and mind, and prioritizing it before anyone else. It is listening to your own needs and trying your best to be present to fulfil them, and nourish your soul with goodness that it deserves.

Skincare, we believe is one of the many ways to embrace your femininity and start being the diva you want to be. Skincare is about devoting time to yourself and taking care of your skin’s health. Here is how:

1.       Taking Me-Time: While taking time to nurture your skin, there is the perfect opportunity to get in touch with your inner self. This is the time to listen to what your inner world has to say to you and the world. Use these few minutes to get to know yourself better and deeper.

2.       Meditation: Along with building a connection for yourself, skincare can be also be a brilliant kind of meditation. Deeply engage with the textures of the products you are applying, their scents and temperature; transforming your skincare ritual into a sensory experience. Slow down and focus on being present throughout every step of the routine.

3.       Reclaiming Your Power: Taking care of your skin is a form of self-respect and autonomy. It is about making choices that serve you, rather than conforming to external standards. Skincare can be a powerful tool that you can begin experimenting with, to find what suits your needs best.

4.       Self-expression: Skincare can also be a wonderful way to embrace your individuality. Curating your own skincare ritual is in itself an act of self-expression. Giving time to your skin’s health and appearance also boosts confidence and is a remarkable sign of claiming what you want to show the world.

5.       Healing and empowerment: The act of gently massaging your skin, applying nourishing products and caring for yourself is an intimate ritual of healing. The warmth of your hands, the rhythmic motions and the care you put into it is a form of self-love, offering yourself the tenderness you deserve. Tell yourself at that moment, that you are enough just the way you are, and hence loved and accepted.

Femininity is fluid, personal and unique to every individual. By embracing skincare as an act of self-love, we reclaim beauty as something deeply personal, a celebration of self rather than a societal expectation. It Is empowerment in its core. So, the next time you cleanse, moisturize or pamper your skin, remember—it’s not just skincare, it’s a love letter to yourself.
